A Colleague’s True Confession — “I Attempted to Edit Wikipedia”

Since the deletion of German paleontologist Günter Bechly’s page from Wikipedia, timed with his public support of the theory of intelligent design, Wikipedia demonstrates its weaknesses surrounding topics that the majority of editors don’t like. Unfortunately, many people read Wikipedia without understanding the role of majority rules or even how content is created and sourced.

Evolution News & Science Today takes a look at the characters behind many of the edits surrounding contentious topics such as intelligent design. These character’s self-published profiles on Wikipedia are illuminating in understanding why these editors spend their time as free volunteers updating and editing Wikipedia entries.
